We have made such a commitment to tax cuts over the past two decades, and I’m struggling to find any tangible benefits other than we have relieved the wealthiest among us of concerns they may have had regarding their financial standing relative to the rest of us (not that they had any to begin with).
What if we had taken a different path over the past 24 years and had focused policy efforts on raising wages/income vs tax cuts? What if we had utilized the approximately $7 trillion in cuts to further efforts related to childcare, school lunches/meals, technical training for those not seeking a college education, efforts similar to the Chips Act, etc.? What could we have accomplished?
